Subic Bay, Zambales: Enjoy Thrilling Water Sports at The Lighthouse Marina Resort

Bandwagon Water Sports

The protected waters of Subic Bay in Zambales, a deep natural harbor surrounded by majestic highlands, makes it an ideal area to safely enjoy a range of water sports. The Lighthouse Marina Resort, in partnership with Networx Jet Sports, offers jet skis, banana boat, bandwagon, parasailing, flyboard and other water-based activities, making Subic Bay a Mecca for water sports in the Philippines.

During our visit to the elegantly designed resort, I tried riding the jet ski and inflatable banana boat and bandwagon, as well as more relaxing water sports like kayaking and paddle boarding. Due to coast guard restrictions, however, only a limited portion of the bay can be explored. The jet-powered rides were nonetheless exhilarating. We zipped around the calm bay, punctuated by the incongruous sight of naval ships and container cranes, plus a stunning backdrop of the Zambales mountain range.

Capped by a 30-meter lighthouse, The Lighthouse is a boutique beach hotel that provides transient residence to business executives, as well as tourists who frequent the former American naval base more for its sailing and eco-tourism than its commercial aspects. A distinguished landmark in the freeport area, the Italiante-style hotel was designed by prominent Filipino architect and urban planner, Felino A. Palafox, Jr.
