The newest luxury resort in Bohol is also the biggest. Aiming to bring the hotel brand nationwide, the Henann Group of Resorts has opened Henann Resort Alona Beach on Panglao Island – its first property outside Boracay. The resort will have its grand opening in August 2015. While enjoying the festivities of the Sandugo Festival 2015, courtesy of AirAsia and Bohol Provincial Tourism Office, our group enjoyed a three-night stay at the brand-new accommodation, which is currently in its soft opening period.
Currently, there are 230 rooms available – all furnished with the signature Henann look of coastal-inspired contemporary interiors in turquoise and pale yellows that exude the serenity of the beach and ocean. Once completed, the resort will have around 400 rooms of various types ranging from deluxe, premier and suites to family, premier with direct pool access, presidential suites and beachfront villas. All rooms feature individually-controlled air-conditioning, twice-daily housekeeping service, cable TV, in-room dining service, personal refrigerator and coffee/tea making facility with complimentary coffee and tea, among others. I stayed at a third-floor Premier Room, which had a nice balcony overlooking the main swimming pool. Of course, the room had all the trappings of a luxury resort room – except for a minibar.
Given the scale of the development, I do hope that Henann Resort seriously considers implementing eco-friendly practices as this disappointingly doesn’t seem to be a current priority at all by the management, which sees environmental sustainability as a niche offering rather than a mandatory way of how resorts should be operated, especially in destinations like Bohol geared towards eco-tourism.
