Akin to Palo Alto Bed & Breakfast, Puerto Pension exudes a rustic atmosphere with its use of indigenous building materials like native hardwood, bamboo and woven pandan. Common spaces are furnished with indigenous decor and photographs of Palawan’s landscapes hang on the walls, completing the authentic atmosphere. Another plus is the location: the guesthouse is walking distance from the port and baywalk areas, as well as tourist spots like the Immaculate Conception Cathedral and Plaza Cuartel, only 400 meters away!
A member of SWITCH-Asia’s Zero Carbon Resorts (ZCR), Puerto Pension utilizes natural ventilation, solar-powered heaters, energy-efficient lighting, low-flow showers, and even provides separate rubbish bins for biodegradables and non-biodegradables in the guest rooms. Moreover, laundry is washed utilizing a rainwater-harvesting system. The guesthouse is also a WWF Check Out for Nature partner, offering guests the opportunity to donate USD 1 – or its equivalent – for every night spent upon check out. Funds raised will benefit WWF-Philippines’ Environmental Life Skills (ELS) Programme, which will educate thousands of elementary students from communities near the Puerto Princesa Underground River – a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the New Seven Natural Wonders of Nature.
Amenities
The compound is rather compact and offers only a few amenities. Besides the view deck restaurant, the rooms surround a garden with a bar hut and outdoor jacuzzi.
Room Rates
Room rates start at PHP 1,280 (single occupancy) or PHP 1,380 (double occupancy) for a deluxe room with shared bathroom, inclusive of airport transfers, wifi access, continental breakfast and welcome drink.
Meals
Tribu Viewdeck Restaurant and Bar serves breakfast, lunch and dinner with lovely views over Puerto Bay. Meals may also be served in your room. The continental breakfast included in the room rates can be upgraded for PHP 88 to a Filipino or American breakfast with unlimited egg cooked according to your preference! The Lemon Chicken and Chicken Alexander –chicken and vegetables in a cream sauce baked with mashed potatoes – I ordered for lunch and dinner were really good, well-portioned and affordably priced.
