Transitions® XTRActive® are everyday adaptive lenses that offer extra protection indoors and outdoors.
For the past few weeks, I’ve been seeing the world more clearly and comfortably, thanks to a fresh pair of Transitions® XTRActive® adaptive lenses. Developed by the global leader provider of plastic photochromic (adaptive) lenses, Transitions® XTRActive® are everyday prescription lenses that offer extra protection from under various light conditions both outdoors and indoors. I’ve been diagnosed with a myopic (near-sighted) right eye since fifth grade, so I’ve gone through a number of regular pairs before. This is my first time to wear photochromic or adaptive lenses that go beyond clarifying my vision.
Infused with a special formulation of photochromic dyes designed to react to both UV and visible light, Transitions® XTRActive® automatically darken and lighten accordingly to provide the perfect tint to protect the eyes, thereby reducing glare and preventing fatigue (To learn more about Transitions® photochromic technology, visit this page). After having worn them for several weeks in different lighting conditions while working, I think Transitions® XTRActive® are the ideal prescription lenses for travelers like myself who work mostly outdoors or are constantly on the go.
Here are the top reasons why you should switch to Transitions® XTRActive® adaptive lenses:
- Perfect for sports and outdoor lovers (e.g. hiking, cycling, golf, etc)
- Ideal for driving as it activates behind the windshield
- Extra darkness outdoors, even in hot temperatures
- Blocks 100% of harmful ultraviolet (UV) rays
- Fits any prescription or eyeglasses frame

Transitions® XTRActive® are available for most frame and prescription types to suit your personal style and preferences.

Transitions® XTRActive® are perfect for people who enjoy the outdoors like myself!
Led by heritage and culture blogger Ivan Henares of Ivan About Town, I road-tested my new pair of lenses in the breathtaking islands of Batanes with fellow travel and lifestyle bloggers, Sinjin of Libotero, Yen Dreyfus of The Tummy Traveler, Chuckie of All Chucked Up! and Melody of Guiltless Getaways.
Stepping out of the SkyJet plane from Manila at Basco Airport, my eyeglasses automatically activated under the full sun, providing the darkest shade to admire the beautiful scenery that greeted us. However, the weather in Batanes was moody, quickly shifting from sunny to cloudy to rainy in a matter of minutes. Amazingly, our adaptive lenses were up to the job of responsively darkening according to the available light. Throughout our tours, my lenses darkened sufficiently, whether the weather was sunny or overcast. Since Transitions® XTRActive® are 17% darker than other Transitions® lenses and block 100% of UV (ultraviolet) rays, there was no need to squint to admire the scenic vistas – even under direct sunlight!

While traveling in the car or hanging out at the hotel lobby, I noticed that my lenses still carried a light tint to shield my eyes from harsh artificial indoor light or the bright light coming through the windows. Unlike other photochromic lenses, Transitions® XTRActive® react not only to UV light but also visible light, thereby protecting the eyes even while indoors or inside a vehicle. They’re perfect for drivers because they activate even behind the windshield.
My only concern with the lenses was its responsiveness when shifting from the darkest shade. When stepping from very bright outdoors to dimly-lit indoors, it takes a while for the lenses to lighten to a suitable shade for indoor visibility. (If you need more responsive lenses that are always completely clear indoors, check out Transitions® Signature™ adaptive lenses.) Nevertheless, Transitions® XTRActive® are the best pair of lenses I’ve ever used. They provide extra protection for a life lived extraordinarily.
