City viewing at Kuala Lumpur takes a hair-raising upgrade at the Skybox, the newest attraction at KL Tower (Menara Kuala Lumpur). Launched only last May in conjunction of the 20th anniversary of the tower, the Skybox was built to as an exciting addition for visitors to the Sky Deck, which offers 360-degree views of the city. KL Tower, after all, is the world’s seventh tallest telecommunications tower, and one of the best places to see the entire metropolis – including the iconic Petronas Towers.
Basically a glass box with steel frames jutting out of the tower’s viewing deck 300 meters above the ground, the Skybox offers a unique sightseeing experience. The structure can safely accommodate up to six people at any time. Walking into a transparent box shoeless with nothing but glass between your feet and a 100-storey drop sure did make me nervous, but I got used to it pretty quickly as I sampled a few poses for the camera, thanks to the enthusiastic encouragement of the souvenir photographer. Would you dare visit the Skybox?
Access to the Skybox comes free with the entrance ticket for KL Tower’s Skydeck (MYR 75). Open daily from 10:00 AM to 10:00 PM. For more information about KL Tower and the Skybox, visit www.menarakl.com.my.
