Kuta – the notorious epicenter of tourist activity on Bali – is chockfull with hotels and guesthouses that it can be daunting to pick the ideal hotel for your budget. On my last visit to the island, after journeying across Komodo and Flores, I found one of the best-value places to stay in town. I was hosted by Loft Legian Hotel, a contemporary boutique hotel managed by Avilla Hospitality, that offers chic comfort where all the Kuta action is.
The modest-sized hotel has modern rooms that were bright, clean and spacious with minimalist design and abstract artwork. What I loved most about the hotel was the location, as it sits along Jalan Melasti between the coastline and the main drag of Jalan Legian lined with many shops, bars and restaurants. The famous surf of Kuta Beach is only a five-minute away. And for bargain shopping, Legian Art Market is just right across the street!
Accommodation rates start at only IDR 288,000 (PHP 1,073) for a Superior Room for two persons with breakfast at The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf. Without breakfast, the same room is only IDR 234,000 (PHP 872).
While Loft Legian Hotel doesn’t have a full-service restaurant, there’s The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf outlet at the lobby which serves muffins and coffee if you booked your room with breakfast. Nonetheless, there are a several dining options nearly along Jalan Melasti and Jalan Legian. If you’re looking for local fare, there’s some good babi guling (roasted pork) at the Legian Art Market across the street, and the best pork barbecue on the island at Sate Babi Bawah Pohon (Jalan Patih Jelantik corner Jalan Sriwijaya) – which was highly recommended by the hotel staff – is only a 10-minute walk away!
How to Get There
Loft Legian Hotel is 8 kilometers away from Ngurah Rai International Airport. The 30-minute taxi ride from the airport to the hotel would cost between IDR 35,000 to 50,000 (PHP 130 to 190). If traveling alone with few pieces of luggage, you can hire an ojek (motorbike) for IDR 25,000 (PHP 100).
