Ahoy there! For the third year in a row, I’m excited to be partnering once again with Blood Red Clothing, a Cebu-based international lifestyle brand that’s been innovating sailing-inspired apparel and gear for men, women and children since 2007. This year, the decade-old brand launched its 2017-2018 collection inspired by the “Seven Seas” and opened its first concept store located in Cebu.

For the past month, I have road-tested their new watersports apparel – particularly the new rash guards – during my recent travels in Indonesia and the Philippines, while enjoying a range of water-based activities that included scuba diving, snorkeling, paddle boarding and rough rides on jet ski-pulled inflatables.

So what’s new about the latest collection?

Bold Designs

While maintaining UV protection, comfortable fit, and innovative details the brand has been known for, the new collection introduces several new designs inspired by the Seven Seas – “Pirates, Buccaneers, treasures, discovered islands, celestial bodies, sea explorers, adventure and life at the sea.” For instance, the new sun guards feature black-and-white stripes that call to mind the distinct outfit of  or buccaneers. On the other hand, there are also vibrant pieces with large color-block patterns that will make you stand out, splashed with sporty hues of red, blue and white, which remind me of maritime signal flags.

Fabric Upgrade

In pursuit of continually improving their products, Blood Red’s 2017-2018 collection is made from all-new high performance textile. The new clothing pieces are constructed from Carvico Malaga fabric from Italy, which provides better fit and durability. Malaga fabric has the composition of 80% Polyamide and 20% Elastane – more commonly known as a Nylon-Spandex blend – which feels light on the skin, has a smoother texture, and is resistant to pilling. It’s one of the most dynamic and durable fabrics, offering a perfect fit that doesn’t lose its shape over the years.

Relaxed Fit

The collection also features rash guards with the standard fit that hugs your body, but also introduces black-and-white pieces with a more relaxed fit. These loose-fitting pieces are ideal for enjoying light water-based activities like swimming in a pool, or simply hanging around a boat or resort. It offers breezy comfort, while still providing the optimum protection you need from the elements.
