Who would have known that Consolacion – the small town just north of Metro Cebu, notorious for its rush-hour traffic jams – could offer a place of utmost solitude and relaxation? Managed by Solea Hotels & Resorts, Wooloo is an exclusive mountain cottage perched on a ridge in the highlands of Barangay Garing, Consolacion, located right next to the popular Nanda Cafe, which they also own and operate. (Check out my post on 6 Scenic Mountain Cafes in Consolacion, Cebu for more options for dining out in the area.)
Only a 45-minute drive north of Cebu City, the pet-friendly upland retreat, which guests exclusively enjoy, makes for a quick nature getaway, overlooking the surrounding mountains and the skyline of Metro Cebu, which sparkle with city lights in the evening. The grassy lawn fronting the cottage provides a lot of open space for children and pets to play, while the adults relax at the outdoor lounge area. Its curious name was borrowed from a sheep-like Pokemon creature to allude to the area’s natu the place is a great alternative for those looking for a different mountain escape, aside from the usual haunts along the Cebu Transcentral Highway (aka “Busay”).
Set in a large, grassy lawn, the fan-cooled bamboo cottage has dormitory-style beds with well-designed interiors. Next to the cottage is a small dipping pool, where guests may cool off during hot, sunny days. The toilet and shower rooms were in a separate bamboo-walled open-air, spiral-shaped structure. Next to it is the outdoor kitchen where guests can prepare and cook their own meals. Perfect for cold evenings, guests may enjoy a complimentary kawa hot bath at a separate bamboo lean-to and a complimentary campfire at the lawn. The sustainable accommodation is powered by solar energy and supplemented with a generator when needed.
Outdoor dining table, lounge chairs, and overhanging net lounges offer excellent spots to relax and enjoy the views of the surrounding green mountains and the distant skyline of Metro Cebu. As of the time of our visit, a second, much larger accommodation was being constructed.
Accommodation is inclusive of breakfast for six persons by Nanda Cafe, served starting at 9:00 am. The breakfast plates are rather generous and can be shared by those with smaller appetites. Served with a cup of coffee, each plate consisted of a meat viand of your choice (eg. chorizo, Spam), two eggs, deep-fried veggies, and steamed rice. Additional breakfast is ₱180 per head. For lunch or dinner, guests may cook their own food at the outdoor kitchen on the property, or order food at Nanda Cafe next-door. There’s also another establishment 700 meters down the road, Divine View RestoCafe, that serves really good food.
