Besides being the alternative gateway to world-famous Boracay Island, the provincial capital of Kalibo stands on its own with its lush and expansive mangrove park, exquisite piña (pineapple cloth) loom-weaving, and the annual Ati-Atihan Festival, held every third weekend of January in honor of the Santo Niño (Holy Child Jesus).
Vanyard Hotel is the newest accommodation in town, housed in a four-storey building, only two kilometers away from Kalibo International Airport. The brand-new establishment, run by friendly and accommodating staff members, offers a clean and comfortable homebase for exploring the town and the rest of Aklan province, and provides a convenient place to rest and recharge before or after a flight.
Amenities
The hotel has 30 air-conditioned rooms across four floors with elevator access (The elevator was out of order, however during my entire stay, so inquire beforehand if this is a necessity). I stayed in an entry-level Standard Room, which featured a flat-screen TV, electric kettle, refrigerator and window-type airconditioner. Complimentary bottled water and instant coffee were provided. Design-wise, the rooms were clean and basic with sky-blue accents on the upholstered chair and blockout curtains. Their rooms could use more decoration in the form of a mural or painting to add mood and character to the interiors.
Dining Options
Room accommodations are inclusive of complimentary plated breakfast, served either in your room or at the second-floor restaurant veranda. There are two dining establishments in the hotel building: Regenio’s Gastropub on the second floor, and billiard bar 8 Ball Tavern on the the ground floor. For more food options, there’s Ati-Atihan Avenue, a small food park next door offering affordable meals.
